Our task with fashion photography is two fold. First, we want to better understand studio fashion photography, and second, we want to better understand runway fashion photography.
In our text, fashon photography is linked with nude photography; don't worry, we will only be shooting fashion photography. We will, however, be exposed to some nude images where parts of women's breasts appear. Becasue the human body is so connected with fashion, it's important that we have an awareness of this genre, despite it being in a sensitive one. If you find these images uncomfotable, please skip them.
What to do:
1. Read the PDF "Fashion photography gr 12" in R drive and make your own notes for the following topics: "beauty" p. 093, "directing models" p. 094-095, "props and locations" p. 096-097, "colourways" p. 112-113, "light on the subject" p. 114-115, "and finally" p. 128-129.
2. Read and consider the image analyses on pages 099 & 116. What can you take away from these analyses that you may apply to your own photography? Include this as a response in your notes.
3. Read the information about shooting runway from the links provided. Make notes regarding how to shoot like a pro, 7 tips for runway photographers, capturing the catwalk, and ins and outs of fashion photography. Show me your notes when completed so I can score them.
4. Preview some of last year's shots to get an idea of what to expect. Pick some that you think are standout.
5. Meet with Mrs. A to discuss the fashion show set up and shoot expectations. You will need to decide who will shoot what, using what lenses, during which times of the show. The ICVMC fashion show is tomorrow (Thursday April 6th at 7pm)
One thing to keep in mind is equipment location. How can you get the shots you'd like while honouring the sightlines of the guests? How can you be less "visible" while being present?
6. Read the section on self-directed shoot, and continue with your studio shoot.
